Your Mission
- Emergency Response Coordinator for Site
- Provides direction and support for the Emergency Response Team (first responders, confined space, hazmat, DOT transporters, incident commanders, etc.)
- Notifies fire insurance company of fire protection system impairments/outages (area personnel will notify safety representatives of such outages)
- Coordinates / performs monthly safety inspections – ensures checklists are completed and filed in safety files (fire team rooms, hose boxes, first responder equipment, responder room and cabinets, etc.)
- Coordinate annual evacuation and accounting drills
- Supports the development and maintenance of confined space rescue plans
- Coordinates site safety audits, assist the managers as needed in closing corrective actions
- Audits site contractors for safety and health compliance – communicate non-compliance issues to purchasing department
- Fixed and portable fire equipment inspection and maintenance program including procedures and records
- Assist in site emergency and security procedure development and implementation
- Develop training modules and evaluations for site safety and health training. This included training area trainers on module content and presentation requirements and review the training method and effectiveness based on evaluations and trainee feedback
- Supports and participates in safety incident investigations (facilitate “root cause” analysis as needed)
- Coordinate injury reporting, drug screening, and follow-up with injured employees
- Move hazardous waste to the 90-day accumulation area and maintain that area
- Complete the Hazardous Waste Report each quarter and electronically submit to MDNR
- Monitor and maintain the sanitary wastewater plant. This includes quarterly sanitary wastewater sampling
- Conduct monthly inspections and audits of various items and processes including but not limited to; safety shower and eyewash stations, hazardous waste tanks, emission points, sprinkler valves, ladders, fire pumps, alarm and suppression systems, and safety signs
- Manage all aspects of the occupational medical surveillance program
- Develop and manage relationships with the occupational medical community
Your Profile
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor of Science in Safety/Environmental related field preferred
- Basic safety education, NEBOSH, OSHA, RCRA, DOT or other relevant education or certification required
- Agreement to become qualified for: Incident Commander, HAZMAT and DOT transporter within first 12 months of employment
- Strong environmental experience alongside safety and health experience
- Basic knowledge about local, state and federal legislation (or the willingness to obtain this knowledge)
- Some understanding of Workers Compensation
- Experience in a safety capacity working in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Good verbal communication skills, Adequate public speaking skills
- Team player within department and the ability to establish a positive relationship with employees at all levels
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Problem solving skills
- Ability to perform multiple functions and tasks simultaneously
- Must be a self-motivated individual
- Ability to work with outside vendors
- Good administrative skills; development and completion of checklists, filing and thorough documentation of tasks performed
- Required to be onsite at the manufacturing facility
- Divided work environment between office, facility production areas, and outside areas of the facility.
- Some travel is required
