Summary:

The Mailer Bag Converting Manager is responsible for providing oversight and leadership for the Pittsburgh plant’s converting operations, with a primary focus on the production of mailer bags. This role includes the effective management of all converting equipment and associated processes to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality output. The Mailer Bag Converting Manager is accountable for achieving daily production goals, managing and developing direct reports, resolving operational issues, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This leader ensures that all converting activities align with customer specifications and company quality standards while maintaining full compliance with company policies and safety procedures. The Mailer Bag Converting Manager also plays a key role in building a collaborative team environment, providing direction, and reinforcing core operational and cultural values.

Your Mission:

  • Acts as a champion of safety by modeling safe behavior and ensuring adherence to all safety regulations and procedures within the production area
  • Monitor and manage key performance metrics such as downtime, run speeds, material waste, and labor productivity to drive continuous improvement
  • Reinforce a culture that embraces and reinforces continuous improvement 
  • Consult with the scheduling/planning department to review work orders, determine process, materials/substrates, machines and sequence of operation to be able to coordinate workflow and resources ensuring efficient execution against the production plan
  • Works with Quality Control to monitor output, assessing/grading each job for standard deviations and imperfections and problem solving to minimize rework, customer complaints, and overall quality concerns
  • Collaborate with maintenance, quality, and scheduling teams to troubleshoot equipment issues, minimize disruptions, and ensure timely order fulfillment
  • Completes necessary administrative tasks including but not limited to time reporting, workforce planning, production recordkeeping and reporting, safety & quality audits
  • Confers with supervisors and or team leads to coordinate activities across multiple shifts
  • Ensures staffing is appropriate to meet workload requirements and productivity standards
  • Demonstrate ownership of trainings required for all production team members 
  • Oversee the performance of direct reports by establishing goals, providing coaching and guidance and conducting regular performance reviews
  • Accept responsibility and accountability for worker performance

Your Profile:

  • 5 + years of experience in manufacturing and/or distribution environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Administration or related field preferred
  • Demonstrated success fostering teamwork and motivating for performance
  • Must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Multiwall paper bag manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Travel required: 10-20%
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and effectively utilize Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Access) to analyze data and trends
