Summary:
Assist the Inline Operator, ensuring bags are produced on time and to customer quality specifications, and organize assigned crew for optimal safety quality and productivity.
Your Mission:
- Studies job order and requisitions required paper or plastic stock; Prepares paper for the production run
- Fastens collar; Determines proper position of steel collar and fastens collar with wrench; Reads steel rules, job order and applies knowledge of machine to determine proper positioning of collar; Computes length of roll by measuring diameter
- Un-bands and/or unwraps mill rolls of paper to be used; Removes wooden core plugs and inserts roll shaft through core, fastening into place on shaft with shaft collars
- Install paper in machine; Operators electric hoist to lift, transport and mount rolls of paper on stationary stands; Splices new roll of paper to be used or completed roll of paper using two-way tape; Aides Inline Operator in threading paper into machine
- Removes paper from machine; Operates hoist to remove used roll of paper from machine; Removes collar from right side of spindle, pulls spindle out of roll and places collar and spindle on storage rack; Measures diameter of partially used roll, records data and identifying data on tag and inventory sheet, tapes tag to roll and notifies lift driver for movement to storage
- Visually watches operation; Visually observes flow of paper into machine, notifies Tube-Machine Operator when paper is running loose, pushes button to stop machine; changes and splices new roll when necessary
- Help perform all machine cleaning including steaming
- Learn how to perform the duties under the operator’s instructions or direction or alone as job experience permits
- Report any maintenance issues to the Inline Operator on shift for immediate corrective action
- Comply with all safety rules, guidelines, and procedures
- Understands and follows lockout – tagout procedures for assigned equipment
- Must be able to accurately read and interpret plant order information and complete required forms accurately and in a timely manner
- Understands and follows all SQF policies and procedures including, but not limited to, procedures for food safety, housekeeping, personal hygiene, and auditing
- Learn machine capabilities in order to determine if machine can produce specified products on the Article
- Help with bag checks as required to ensure bags are produced to quality specifications and make machine adjustments as needed to correct issues
- Learn how to troubleshoot Inline issues and assist in repairs
- Help monitor the quality of the bags during the production run through bag checks and other methods. Communicates issues to the operator
- Keep work area clean, including sweeping, mopping, picking up and disposing of trash
Your Profile:
- Must have experience operating Inline equipment
- Manufacturing experience is strongly preferred
- Strong attention to detail abilities
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to use hand truck, drum dolly, and electric pallet jack
- Ability to use a computer, and to understand and use computer software
- Mechanical aptitude
Schedule Demands:
- Work schedules are normally 8 or 12 hours
- May be scheduled for rotating days off
- Ability to work any day, including weekends
- Able to work any shift, including overnight shifts
- Must be able to work overtime as needed, including extra hours on short notice
Physical Demands:
- Standing for extended periods
- Awkward and/or repetitive movements
- Climbing ladders and/or stairways
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly for up to 12 hours.
- Over 50 pounds requires two people or assisted lifting device
- Reading computer screen or other electronic devices
- Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment
- Work in areas of fluctuating temperature
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (including but not limited to steel toe shoes, earplugs, safety glasses, and hairnet)
Work Environment:
- Works near moving mechanical parts.
- Works on or with high voltage equipment (up to 480 volts AC).
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Moderate heat (up to 100 degrees in the summer months).
- Noise levels of up to 90 decibels
